Shyfrin Alliance – Whiskey Blues (2024)

Author, businessman, physicist, metallurgist and musician, Ukrainian Eduard Shyfrin has various facets to his personality, but it was music that won his heart at a young age. As an award-winning scientist, he has embarked upon research, penned bestselling books and prompted “a steadfast pursuit of meanings and purpose”, but it was always his 6-year-old self playing the piano that kept a passion for music burning. Unconscious or not, the burning embers grew to a roaring fire when Shyfrin culminated his experiences and knowledge in the intoxicating Shyfrin Alliance. Joined by veteran musicians Basile LeRoux (guitar), Dominique Bertram (bass), Jean-Baptiste Cortot (drums), Frederic Gaillardet (keys), Yannick Soccal (lead saxophone), Lizzy Parks (vocals), Shyfrin Alliance created a revolutionary debut album. Come with us as we jump headfirst into their debut single.

Produced with Fred Luzignaut (arranger) and Ludovic Tartavel (sound engineer) at France’s Studio Grand Armée and Studio Ferber, Shyfrin Alliance’s debut album is one “of intoxicating rock, blues and romantic balladry…” ‘Whiskey Blues’ offers a tantalising taste of blues and classic rock. Penned and composed by Eduard Shyfrin, ‘Whiskey Blues’ drags listeners to the 1960s and 1970s blues-rock era. Grabbing you from the outset with pounding drums, a powerful bass, scorching guitars and an outstanding keyboard slithering through the melody, ‘Whiskey Blues’ ensnare your senses in a kaleidoscopic sonic hurricane.

While Shyfrin Alliance might fall alongside The Blues Band with shimmering hints of Blue Oyster Cult, blaring obscurity exists making this band unique and inimitable. Shyfrin’s striking bass-baritone binds the song with Parks’ honey-laced vocals dripping soul-stirring tones into the track. Just as the track is moving melodically, the lyricism adds profoundness. Shyfrin explains:

“We have different days, sometimes difficult, sometimes gloomy, but we should go on. We should continue and overcome and move on. That’s the underlying motive of this song. It’s important… I try not to write meaningless lyrics without a message – I’m not interested in that. For me, the message – the lyric – is very important.”
