ZOE – Fire (2022)

Influenced by life in its entirety and the human essence, Australian singer-songwriter ZOE brings an indie-pop meets folk sound to the masses. A relatively new artist on the scene, with ‘Fire’ being her debut single, ZOE only began making a dent in the music scene recently. Yet, while she is still a newbie, she is already building a loyal following reaching listeners far beyond her Australian borders. Come with us as we delve into her single ‘Fire’.

Taken from her upcoming debut EP Sun, ‘Fire’ is a contemplative and profound single with a soulful execution. I could call her sound a melding of Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks with sprinkles of Enya; however, it might not be fair. Yes, there is a nostalgic flair in a folk-pop style with the obscurity of Kate Bush, but ZOE is certainly bringing her own essence to this genre. The throwback to yesteryear is enjoyable, however, ZOE’s ‘Fire’ has a contemporary indie edginess making her sound exclusively ZOE.

While the melody can hold its own as an impressive, unforgettable tune to send your soul soaring, further depth can be found in the profound, poignant lyricism. ZOE explains that ‘Fire’ “talks about fire as the essence of humanity, our core energy. Humans have always gathered around fire, so, in a way, fire becomes the place we are truly known. It also talks about finding home in each other and goes on to talk about the space that is left to grow when there is nothing left to find. It’s a song that kind of wants you to get through all the bullshit and materialism and then go, what is left now…the answer to those questions is really what the song is getting at.”

In addition to the single, ZOE released an official music video for ‘Fire’. You can view this video below or on her official YouTube channel. Please note that the video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.
