Zaritza – Make Me Believe (2020)

Trained as a classical pianist and ballet dancer, Russian singer-songwriter Zaritza has a penchant for performing arts. After high school, Zaritza relocated to the United States of America to pursue a musical career which started with her debut album in 2017. Receiving significant critical acclaim for her album, notably from Hollywood Digest being described as “one of the few unique artists to make her own way”, Zaritza continued to release singles building a reputation for engaging and melodic music. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Make Me Believe’.

‘Make Me Believe’ is one of Zaritza’s most ambitious and vulnerable releases to date. Written as a catharsis to deal with the emotional consequences of heartbreak, the track has a soul-stirring quality to it. The combination of melodious vocals and a stripped-back piano enhances the element of vulnerability; however, it is Zaritza’s voice that truly enchanted me.

Lying somewhere between Dido and Natalie Imbruglia, Zaritza’s vocals are both endearing and slightly haunting. Perhaps it is the acoustic simplicity of the track that makes the song so moving, but the feeling in the vocal tone and timbre emphasises a sincerity behind the poignancy of the track.

“‘Make Me Believe’ is a bittersweet kind of song, but the main message I want to give is that hope is more powerful than fear; that there is always something better to believe in and reach out to.” – Zaritza on ‘Make Me Believe’
