Ye Angst – Sundown (2011)

For over a decade, Australian artist Ye Angst has crafted music by “filtering expression through a lens of youthful angst”. Traversing the genres of folk, pop and rock, Ye Angst is almost impossible to categorise with each single having a new style, sound and attitude. From the debut electropop single ‘Dance’ to the folk-pop track ‘Friend’ and the rock-inspired ‘Beckon’, Ye Angst can meet the needs of any audience. Come with us as we delve into their song ‘Sundown’.

Originally released in 2011, ‘Sundown’ is one of the first singles in Ye Angst’s repertoire. Following the indie-rock meets folk-rock ‘Spin’, ‘Sundown’ hits you between the eyes with a blast of hard rock from the first note. Powerful, hard-hitting and a little crazy, the bold arrangement of guitars and pounding drums courses through your veins ensnaring your senses. I could compare ‘Sundown’ to iconic classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin but there is a contemporary edginess as Ye Angst bridges the gap between a retro and modern-day rock in their music.

Mostly an instrumental guitar-driven single, ‘Sundown’ is a high-energy charge of sonic electricity from beginning to end. Interspersed vocals add a gritty cheekiness to the tune but the melody brings a grittiness of its own to our ears. Ye Angst explains that ‘Sundown’ is a “rip-roaring action-adventure ride rolled into a single hard rock tune. While Wild West aspects may be detected, the protagonist could be any unlikely hero who is fighting for what’s right and where the odds are overwhelmingly stacked against them. Despite the challenge, they emerge triumphant and ride into a figurative sunset…”
