Y Is Nature – The Fool (2025)

Delving into the popular cinematic genre of spy thrillers, Y Is Nature dictates the spy thriller soundtrack with the self-described spy-pop. Initiated by singer-songwriter Hjalmar Littauer in 2024, Y Is Nature entwines the polish of James Bond with the elegance of Tony Arzenta and the ruggedness of Alec Trevelyan in his melodies. While Y Is Nature might have only three tracks to its name, Littauer is anything but a newbie in the scene. His first major release was 2018’s Sun Solace by Danish ISRA; however, it is his latest project that draws our fancy. Join us as we explore his newest single, ‘The Fool’.

On the heels of the well-received 2024 track ‘Trouble’, Y Is Nature saunters into 2025 with a genre-bending few minutes of music. Blurring the line between electropop and synth-pop, ‘The Fool’ brims with pulsating beats and shimmering synths blended in cinematic otherworldliness. Yet, as much as the single is an ethereal wash of wistful pop, a slice of indie-rock peeps from the background adding a gritty edge to a soothing flood of kaleidoscopic noise.

For me, listening to Y Is Nature is not only hearing a song, but rather a sensational sonic experience. Produced by Martin Solli, Simon Littauer, and Bjarne Stensli, ‘The Fool’ wriggles into your cranium, bounces across your brain, then fizzles down your spine leaving you breathless. Moreover, while ‘The Fool’ is jostling about your body, there is a sense of weightlessness to the track spiralling in a vibrant musical orbit.

Melodically, ‘The Fool’ is laidback and chilled out with fairy dust twinkling along; however, the track is far more profound than its glistening charm assumes. Joined by vocalist Tuva Svendsen Hesmyr delicately luring you with her siren sound, ‘The Fool’ tackles issues of control, self-worth, and anxiety. Y Is Nature explains:

“The track navigates the unsettling interplay between the fear of losing someone you love and the desperate need for control…”
