Willis Woka – Aime Moi (2024)

To “spiritually and emotionally care for one’s listeners…”, singer-songwriter Willis Woka uses intimate narratives to create a place of solace through his music. A new artist to our ears – actually to most people considering his musical journey began this year – Woka brings a unique blend of pop, RnB and soul. Raised in the Val D’oise, the French musician always had a dream of sharing his creativity with the world; now he’s here and quickly turning heads beyond his French borders. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Aime Moi’.

Joined by producer/composer Hedayat, ‘Aime Moi’ follows his debut single, ‘PENSE A NOUS’. Shifting from a heavier concoction of hard-hitting hip-hop meets pop, ‘Aime Moi’ is soothing, soft and tender. Ultimately a love ballad with simplistic piano matching Woka’s intoxicating vocals, ‘Aime Moi’ is a gentle tug of pop music. Yet, while there is a strong pop sound, complexity belies the mellifluous tune. A rush of RnB floods across the sonic tapestry adding a hit of dramatic emotion to its sonic rollercoaster.

‘Aime Moi’ is a dynamic melody in its own right; however, profoundness lingers in the fusion of poetic lyricism and rich vocals. Music is that which reaches beyond the realm of language where language is inconsequential – this is ‘Aime Moi’. I don’t know a word of French, beyond please and thank you, but Woka’s sophomore single is so moving and soul-stirring that you don’t need to understand what is said.

Bold and confident with sincere fragility; vulnerable and poignant with tender charm; calm and soothing with melancholic intoxication, ‘Aime Moi’ is a romantic rush of soul-stirring music. Touching on love in its rawest form, Woka explains that ‘this single is “a declaration of love to another human being. A desire to show one’s feelings and to show what one can feel for the other.”
