Will Lisil – Elon Musk (2024)

Pushing the boundaries of music production, singer-songwriter Will Lisil binds various genres in his moving, artistic and provocative melodies. Spanning diverse realms of hip hop, pop rock, EDM, Britpop and even some soul, Lisil is capable of bending styles in a unique, innovative and entrancing way. This is my introduction to Lisil, but he is by no means a stranger to audiences as both a musician and philanthropist. Co-founding PopHits.com and supporting creatives across the globe with GetFund.io, his work is a “testament to the power of music as a tool for societal change…” Acting as a voice for change in an uncertain, insecure, somewhat unstable society, Lisil bares all in his melodies.

Following his well-received 2023 single ‘Niklos Ferreira (Passinho do Nik)’, Lisil strides into 2024 with the song ‘Elon Musk’. Shifting from the electronic-driven pop style with bold pulsating beats, Lisil tips his hat at the power of punk rock. Yet, while a strong brashness exists in the punk-driven tune, a slice of pop-rock rushes across your face presenting an old-school type of pop-punk. Not exactly anything from Fall Out Boy or Blink 182, but with a hint of Sum 41 and The Offspring lurking in the composition; particularly the growls of Lisil’s rich vocals.

While the melody holds a powerful sonic punch demanding attention, the lyricism captures the core of its theme – making a change in an unjust world. The voice of a downtrodden generation who really don’t want to take it anymore, ‘Elon Musk’ incorporates male and female vocals highlighting the significance of the track for all people not just certain ones. Will Lisil explains:

“With ‘Elon Musk’ I wanted to challenge not just how we perceive punk rock, but also how we relate to music as a form of protest and social expression… It’s about breaking free from constraints, using the raw energy of punk, and channelling it through an experimental lens to speak on matters close to the heart. This song is for anyone who believes in the power of voice in the face of injustice.”
