Wildpack – Talk About It (2021)

There are a lot of struggles and problems that people in relationships face. Wildpack are considering all of them in their single ‘Talk About It’. As the name suggests, the track also offers a solution which is the need for communication in a relationship. Through the single, the band considers how effective communication in a relationship can help a couple overcome almost any issues they face.

Josh Coates (rhythm guitar, vocals), Howard Hooper (lead guitar, backing vocals), Callum Houghton (bass, backing vocals) and Hugo Bowman (drums, tambourine) are the driving force behind this search for a solution. The band came together at the start of 2020 and were able to get a few gigs in before lockdown hit. Remaining positive and active, they released their debut single and are now following it up with a rock blast.

‘Talk About It’ has this guitar line that plucks against your ears before yanking you into the soundscape. There is an infectious energy to the music that gets your body moving or at least your feet tapping. As you are pulled endlessly into the melody, the music has a contemplative vibe to it. This is tempered with a brightness that is packed with feel-good emotions that come from the good times of a relationship. The crashing of the chorus has a more inquisitive feeling as the vocals call out for an answer.

When Coates’ vocals come in, he draws you into the scene of an argument. His voice is able to bring both sides of the situation which is amazing. In the chorus, he questions the lack of communication in the relationship. There is a subtle plea in his performance that tugs at your heart and makes you feel the pain he is going through. If you are listening to this track after having an argument with anyone, it will compel you to go and talk about everything.

Wildpack uses an infectious melody, subtly pleading vocals and an emotional avalanche to get you talking to others in ‘Talk About It’. As the melody fills you with the bright vibes of the good times the lyrics tell the story of a spiralling relationship. The vocals infuse a plea to work things out with the questioning of how things got to this point. This all comes together for a single that you can easily listen to on repeat.
