Wild Horse – Keep On Moving Up (2024)

Easy on the eyes and awesome on the ears, Wild Horse is the band you never knew you needed and now you can’t get enough. Hailing from the UK, the indie trio find the line between funk, indie-rock and indie-pop, then blurs it with effortless ease. 2023 was a busy and successful year for Wild Horse with extensive gigging, writing and recording singles all to international critical acclaim. Described as “one of the hardest working bands out there”, they stunned audiences with energetic songs and confident performances including great support from BBC Radio. Hitting 2024 with their well-received ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’, the lads rush into the new year with gusto – and in my opinion, it’s going to be a better year than last.

Following the popular ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’, Wild Horse keep on climbing that proverbial ladder with ‘Keep On Moving Up’. Recorded at London’s The Animal Farm Music studio and co-produced with regular collaborator Matt Leppanen, ‘Keep On Moving Up’ presents the distinctive Wild Horse’s funk meets indie-rock sound. Yet, unlike ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’, there is a shift from upbeat chaos to laidback funk bringing a groovy vibe to the single.

As much as I love ‘Wednesday Night Distractions’, I prefer the easier flow of ‘Keep On Moving Up’. Breathing life into 70s funk-rock, Wild Horse transcend generations with their nostalgic but new sound. A rich fusion of bold drums and powerful guitars shove you into a whirlpool of kaleidoscopic music, while Jack Baldwin’s rich vocals ooze infectious lyrics with magical charm. It really is one of those songs that stick in your brain for days – trust me, this household can’t seem to stop singing the chorus.

While Jack Baldwin, Henry Baldwin and Ed Barnes immerse you in a harmonious heart-warming melody, it is the lyricism that makes ‘Keep On Moving Up’ intriguing. Describing the “daily grind of the career-driven”, lyrics like “the boss has got you on a string so you can do all the work…” might appear disheartening; however, the overall message is not disheartening at all (or at least it shouldn’t be). Finishing that lyric with “…they don’t want you to fail”, ‘Keep On Moving Up’ is a hopeful, empowering and optimistic single cheering your ambition.

The theme song for the driven individual, ‘Keep On Moving Up’ encourages resilience, relentless ambition and will have you dancing your way to the top.
