Wild Celia – Waiting For The Love (2022)

While the past two years have been devastating for many, some amazing things have blossomed from the pit of the pandemic – Wild Celia being one of them. Formed in 2020, Wild Celia is a duo bursting with a fresh form of indie meets folk meets pop sound. Influenced by artists like Kate Bush and Fleetwood Mac, there is a retro tinge to their music; however, a freshness adds edginess and eclecticism. With only three singles to their name, Wild Celia is a newbie in the pool of sonic sharks, but their intriguing sound is already turning heads across the globe. The latest addition to the well-received discography is the track ‘Waiting For The Love’.

After meeting at school and discovering “musical chemistry that’s rare to find”, Eimile and Tommy came together to create a particular type of musical chemistry. In ‘Waiting For The Love’, the duo retains the chamber pop sound heard in the previous track ‘Red Light’. Yet, while the baroque or chamber pop sound is evident, Wild Celia showcases an indie-rock tone in the new track. A potential evolution of the band’s style; however, given they are only three tracks in so it appears they are still experimenting. What I do know is the elegance and sophistication of these melodies make me think the pair are naturally talented sonic alchemists.

Upbeat, toe-tapping and enchanting, ‘Waiting For The Love’ is an arrangement of pounding drums, dynamic guitars and Eimile’s rich vocals. The track does lure you in with a soothing, softer and more gentle tone; however, you are whipped about rather quickly with large infectious choruses seeping through your skin. As I mentioned, there is an indie-rock tinge to this track, but the modern soul pouring from the pair makes an easy comparison with Florence and the Machine. In fact, the vocals remind me of Florence Welch with a slightly obscure flow.

Sincere, sentimental, strong and genuine, Wild Celia won my heart with ‘Waiting For The Love’ – I’m sure they’ll win your heart too.
