Wide Room – Trust (2021)
In the leadup to their debut album, Wide Room have released ‘Trust’ which offers a taster of what is to come. The album explores the forces of God that hold people together using the analogy of the strong nuclear forces between Hadron particles. A rather deep topic, this single is a wonderful introduction and eases you into the thoughts and spiritual warfare of the album.
This introspective journey brings the distinctive sound of the band to your ears. This release also marks the first since their debut EP in 2014 after which Micha Blatter (vocals, guitar) Sascha Lackner (guitar), Marco Döbeli (drums) and Sven Egloff (guitar) started honing their live performance skills and working toward the new album. With a polished sound, they are ready to captivate your senses and draw you into your own introspection.
‘Trust’ opens with spoken word that comes through the fog of the music and from a great distance. This turns into the rock vocals that call from the depths of your soul. There is an echoing harmonisation to the vocals that has you floating in the soundscape. The layering of the vocals is wonderful and gives the pulses of rock greater impact. There is a lot of questioning within the lyrics as they call out for a higher power that seems to be missing. The single has a really cerebral vibe that gets you questioning things while opening the doors to the rest of the album.
Beneath the heavy rock vocals is a churning soundscape that is like roiling waters. Each instrument adds to the rock punch of the vocals before dropping for a moment of introspection. The guitar sings through the background while the beats tap against your ribcage. In the latter half of the track, there is a building feeling to the melody that is wonderful when taken with the lyrics.
Wide Room has you thinking with their single ‘Trust’ while sweeping you up with layers of rock stylings and echoing vocals. The single is epic from start to finish and rolls you through a range of emotions. Every element of the track builds on the last for a sophisticated single that has you eager for their album.
