Wicked Garden – Over and Done (2020)

Breakups are not always bad as some relationships naturally run their course and come to an end. Through their single ‘Over and Done’, Wicked Garden is telling the story of one of these breakups and all the emotions that follow. With their blend of 90s alternative rock and grunge, they bring a bit of fun to a topic that is often washed with pain.

Dominick Muzio (vocals, guitars), Shawn Trojahn (guitar), Troy Spriggs (bass, backing vocals) and Jason Dardano (drums, percussion) have been releasing their original music since 2018. Receiving worldwide acclaim, they have been growing their fanbase and it is clear to see why so many people are listening. Not only is their music highly engaging, but their music videos are also entertaining and bring a light-hearted feeling to some heavier topics.

‘Over and Done’ softly pulls you into the single with a gentle guitar line. The drums calmly roll into the melody to join the guitar for a head-bopping yet soothing flow. This comes to a head on the chorus as the music rises with a pulse of sound. There is a wonderful 90s vibe to the melody that makes you smile. After the first chorus, the power of the melody remains and forces you to ride the guitars. It is a really engaging chorus that rises with the emotions of the lyrics.

The softness of the opening melody is matched by the tender tones of Muzio’s vocals. There is an easy feeling to his performance before he soars on the chorus. Through the lyrics, he paints the dying moments of a relationship where the couple have just drifted apart. The chorus is quite catchy and makes you want to close your eyes to allow the light growl in the vocals to scratch your brain. There is a really amicable feeling to the music and vocals that let you know that the relationship is over yet there are no hard feelings really.

Wicked Garden fills you with some 90s vibes with their infectious blend of alt-rock while touching on breakups in ‘Over and Done’. The melody rises through the opening and has you riding the guitars before the single is over. The light growl of the vocals is perfect as they delve into the emotions preceding a breakup.
