Wexford – Moving On (2024)
While Wexford can be divined as a punk band, there is far more than some crashing drums and rough screams found in their melting pot of music. Gleaning at elements of alternative rock with grunge, pop-rock, and the chaos of punk, US-based Wexford brings a new intensity to the heavier, harder rock-inspired tones. In 2022, the quartet released their album OK Suburbia to critical acclaim, and they haven’t stopped since. Along with international audiences, The Other Side Reviews have already made Wexford’s acquaintance with ‘Dirty Habit’ and ‘Change Your Mind’. Today, we step once again into Wexford’s world with the latest single ‘Moving On’.
Following the well-received track ‘Dirty Habit’, ‘Moving On’ is Wexford’s fourth release in 2024 – all leading to their upcoming full-length album Silent Key. Seemingly finding the line between grunge-filled ‘Dirty Habit’ and pop-rock ‘Never Give Up The Fight’, ‘Moving On’ is a nostalgic brush of pop-rock with the heavier grit of grunge. Recorded and produced with Shawn Patrick Thomas Daly and Brian Lucey (mastering), the single is an explosion of Jeff Vandebussche’s drums, Andy Kohlmann and Dave Mueller’s guitars and Shawn Daley’s bass. Interestingly, while a distorted clambering for power exists between the well-layered arrangement from the scorching guitars, crashing drums and bold bass, an intricate harmony exists beneath the insanity.
Lilting toward the lines of Green Day and Weezer, a strong 90s flavour exists in Wexford’s ‘Moving On’. For me, however, it is the richness of Mueller’s vocals that bind everything in a fresh but familiar wrapper. Oozing warmth and courage, his dulcet tones capture a sense of hopefulness in the frenzied tune. Then again, a sting of fragility and vulnerability lingers within the complex melody. When speaking of ‘Moving On’, Mueller explains:
“’Moving On’ is a reflective and emotive song that addresses themes of change, resilience, and the complexities of moving forward after experiencing difficulties. It invites listeners to contemplate their own journeys of overcoming challenges and finding strength in the face of diversity.”
In addition to the single, Wexford released an official music video for ‘Moving On’. The video can be viewed below or on their YouTube channel.
