We Are All Fossils – Hollow (2024)

In 2014, We Are All Fossils made his way to people’s ears and eyes as a YouTube project; since then, his moving melodies have captured their hearts as well. In 2015, the UK-based musician released his debut EP Aether gaining recognition across the internet. Soon after, We Are All Fossils started making waves in the music industry with his singles. Reaching far beyond his UK borders, his discography struck chords in the USA, France, Brazil, Canada and Portugal – to name but a few.

Described as heartfelt, fantastic, elegant and oozing with raw honesty, We Are All Fossils finds the line between traditional folk and indie folk, then blurs it. Following his well-received singles ‘Fire’, ‘Dead End’ and ‘When I Find You’, We Are All Fossils steps into 2024 with the latest single ‘Hollow’.

The younger brother of James Blunt, We Are All Fossils holds the same sense of desperation, frustration and heart-breaking tenderness in ‘Hollow’. Wistful, whimsical and brimming with brutal honesty, listening to ‘Hollow’ is like walking through a wispy haze of clouds covering a bold forest floor. The harmony of guitars and drums crashes beneath, but the touching core of ‘Hollow’ is the haunting vocals echoing in the melody. Distant and ghost-like, We Are All Fossils leads you along in a lost haze; however, while the song is despairing with heart-breaking tragedy, there is also rich comfort.

While I can listen to ‘Hollow’ as a soul-stirring melody accompanied by obscure vocals, it is the lyricism that captures the essence of the single. We Are All Fossils explains:

“Writing ‘Hollow’ was a cathartic process for me. Sadly, I lost my mother unexpectedly and ‘Hollow’ became like a secret room for me to transmit what I needed to say. I’ve felt that there is a gravity in grief which pulls you in all directions and navigating this has been a rediscovery of life and living. I’m hoping this song can offer the same release to others that it has given me.”
