Wax Heart Sodality – Hoodwinked (2020)
In existence since the days of the Roman Empire (or perhaps even further back), the secret organisation Wax Heart Sodality worked with the population to guide people who are lost back to the proverbial light. As is the case with secret societies, Wax Heart Sodality operates below the surface of civilisation taking individuals from the cusp of oblivion to the table of glory. In November 2019, four men gathered to continue pursuing this noble aspiration in the band Wax Heart Sodality. Expressing their aspirations through music, the relatively new band has gained a steady following from the lost and enlightened. The first single released in 2020 is ‘Hoodwinked’.
Lyrically, ‘Hoodwinked’ is a sinister exploration of people being blinded by misleading information and not questioning the source of this information. Far more provocative than their previous release ‘Alphas’, Wax Heart Sodality not only discuss the state of bewilderment in society, but they also express a chastisement of the misled media-driven population. Melodically, however, it is far more relaxed and slightly haunting. A cross between The Cure and Depeche Mode, but with a 21st-century twist, ‘Hoodwinked’ is an ethereal and hypnotic track.
Described by Dark Life Experience as “uncomplicated and catchy without being boring”, the British foursome are definitely ones to watch in 2020. The secret society Wax Heart Sodality may operate beneath the surface, but the band Wax Heart Sodality can be placed far above others.
