Waves Crashing – Life On Display (2023)
For the past four years (give or take), alternative rock trio Waves Crashing has been sharing its sensational sound with the masses. Known for energetic and engaging performances, the lads have played alongside bands like The Districts, The Cave Singers and Bully, as well as festivals like the LoveOly Summer Fest. Hailing from Olympia, Washington (that’s in the USA to be exact), Waves Crashing is not only turning audiences’ heads but are reaching the press far beyond their US borders such as Obscure Sound, Static Sounds Club, Edgar Allan Poets, and Indie Dock Music Blog. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Life On Display’.
Following their single ‘high/low’, ‘Life On Display’ is Waves Crashing’s first release in 2023. Adopting an old-school indie-rock meets grunge style, the new single leans towards the sounds of Radiohead and Depeche Mode; however, contemporary alternative rock splinters through the soundscape bringing a unique edge to Waves Crashing. The pounding drums effortlessly merge with powerful guitars creating a dynamic rock tone. Yet, a softer, smooth and gentle vocal execution (almost a whisper) lays atop giving ‘Life On Display’ a flowing quality.
Featured on their upcoming EP The Viewing, ‘Life On Display’ is not just a fun, catchy song, but also one with deep profoundness. The delicate lyricism is haunting, oozing vulnerability as frontman Joshua Calisti (vocals and guitar) captures the essence of human existence in ‘Life On Display’. Spine-chilling – that’s probably the best way to describe the masterful piece of music pouring forth from Waves Crashing.
