Warahenege – For the Moment (2021)

Warahenege is back with another emotional and honest single in ‘For the Moment’. The single has been three years in the marking as he wrote it in 2018 after a deterioration in his mental health. Through the single, he unleashes his emotional turmoil while tentatively reaching out in search of hope and happiness.

While the track takes a slightly different route to his last ‘Cosmic Mess’, the addictive tones remain. He continues drawing you along an emotional journey that highlights his abilities as an artist. As he draws on personal experiences, he offers a vulnerable yet relatable single that pulls the seriousness he brought in his first single to poetic lyrics.

‘For the Moment’ has a rather dreamy feeling to the melody that sets you at ease and lifts the heaviness of the world from your shoulders. Through the soft shuffling tones and light guitar, you are able to breathe with ease. The relaxing vibe of the music has a slight lo-fi feeling that settles on your skin like a warm blanket. While the music is gentle and relaxing, it does have a turn when the horns come in. The notes that break through the dreaminess carry a different vibe to them as they lift you from the plush cushion you have been resting on. They have a very interesting contrast to them as they break through like a ray of light while also draw you into a strange heaviness.

Warahenege’s vocals are complemented by the music as he enters with a haziness to his voice. While this matches the dreamy melody, his performance carries a weight in it. Through his voice, you are filled with the emotional turmoil of the lyrics that pit anxiety and loneliness against each other. When the music breaks through, the weight of the vocals remains which is a wonderful sonic representation of the mental state detailed in the lyrics.

Warahenege uses dreamy poetry, soft soundscapes, swinging melodies and hazy vocals to take you through the emotional ride of ‘For the Moment’. The single draws you in with an easy and grounded sound that turns into a reaching out for something more. While the vocals retain their hazy vibe throughout the single, the emotional impact moves from depression to something a little lighter and more hopeful.
