Vinny Franco – I’ll Be in Chicago for the Weekend (2021)

If you are looking for a blend of soulful RnB with some deep synth tones, Vinny Franco has just what you need. ‘I’ll Be in Chicago for the Weekend’ takes Franco’s soulful baritone and wraps it around adoring lyricism before resting it on a piano-driven melody. Inspired by Lake Michigan and cold winds, the single looks at a return to love in Chicago and a feeling of newfound health.

While Franco is able to effortless mould RnB tones to his will, this sound was not always what he played. After receiving classical voice training, his original music tilted toward folk. After graduating from Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, he found his passion in pop and RnB. Since then, he has been delighting listeners with his fusion of the styles.

‘I’ll Be in Chicago for the Weekend’ vibrates into your ears with a deep and crackling synth opening. A smooth piano line cuts through the crackling to draw you into the soulful melody. The piano line creates a rich melody on its own which is enhanced by the RnB beats that lightly pound in the background. The synths make a reappearance later in the track as they rise from the depths of the music. They weave around the piano line and ticking beats adding a unique depth to the music that closes in around you.

Franco’s vocals are as soulful as that piano line as he draws you into the emotions of the track. His baritone is countered by Sumer who comes in with a lighter tone. The interplay between their vocals gives you a call and response style lyricism. As Franco’s vocals continue their soulful flow through your ears, you hear Sumer in the background calling out which adds an interesting layer to the music.

Vinny Franco teams up with Sumer for the soulful flows and encompassing music of ‘I’ll Be in Chicago for the Weekend’. The music has a plush richness from the smooth piano line to the artfully introduced synths. Franco’s vocals are as rich and soulful as the music while Sumer offers a lighter tone that calls back to him.
