Vincent J. Rigney – This Love (2024)
Inserting intimate narratives into his melodies, singer-songwriter Vincent J. Rigney uses music to explore (and express) life experiences. Known for confident, engaging performances, his exuberant personality instantly fascinates audiences; hence, the growing following nationally and internationally. Along with numerous listeners, this is not the first time Rigney has turned our heads; however, each track is such a breath of fresh air that you feel like it’s your introduction. Then again, oddly enough, his melodies seem familiar while retaining the air of “well, this is new”. The latest addition to his repertoire is the single ‘This Love’.
Following his critically acclaimed track ‘Busking In The Smoke’, UK-based Rigney offers us a peep into his life experiences with ‘This Love’. While ‘Busking In The Smoke’ explores the grittier, grimier, darker times of terrorist attacks and the Grenfell Tower fire, ‘This Love’ lifts the mood. Shifting from the oscillation between despair and hopefulness, the new single celebrates the beauty and freedom of pure love.
Tapping into happier times with sentimental tenderness, ‘This Love’ “tells us how Rigney and his wife met on a church pilgrimage in 1983 and unbeknown to them they were reunited 20 years later and today happily married… the lyrics in the song also tell about past relationships as a couple and tragic events that unfolded… only to make them stronger and now inseparable.” 20 years, that’s a rather long time to be married and rarely seen in today’s complicated society. Still, the sweetness of that pure passion burns bright over decades and is highly respected and admired… well, at least by me.
Taken from Rigney’s second EP, Steel Town Boy, ‘This Love’ is a swirling concoction of classic rock and old-school blues. A bold bass lingers beneath crashing drums as Rigney’s searing guitar drives the rock-influenced track. While the instrumentation is hard-hitting, there appears a soothing delicacy to the harmonic melody finding the line between a soothing love song and a powerful rock tune. It is Rigney’s rich vocals that bring warmth, joy and comfort to ‘This Love’.
