Vincent J. Rigney – Rock ‘n’ Roll King (2025)

“I like to write about my life” – it’s as simple as that. Vincent J. Rigney wants to share personal experiences, however tragic or triumphant, with audiences. His hope? Not merely an individual catharsis, but a chance to offer solace to anyone who needs that friendly hand. We came across the UK-based Rigney a couple of years ago with his 2023 single ‘Beautiful Human’, and since then, each song is another personal diary entry with soul-stirring sonic sentimentality. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll King’.

Following the well-received single ‘Ghosting’ – a particularly significant, poignant and weighty song exploring the emotional toll of being “ghosted” – ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll King’ lifts the mood. Taken from Rigney’s upcoming EP, Rocky Road, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll King’ drags us to his childhood when he “…first boards the plane to visit his idol Elvis Presley in the USA.”

Lifted straight out of the 1960s blues-rock world, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll King’ brims with toe-tapping, hip-shaking, grin-inducing infectiousness. A smash of crashing drums, bold bass, and soaring guitar, the melody sends you reeling in a kaleidoscopic sonic whirlpool with dizzying charm. Yet, while the song leans towards the Elvis-inspired rock and roll style, particularly in Rigney’s guitar solos, his signature blues tone lingers in the hard-hitting riffs.

Even if you weren’t aware of Rigney’s childhood dream, the references to Elvis Presley, his blue suede shoes, and Graceland are enough to link ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll King’ to that King of rock and roll. Yet, as amusing as those lyrical hints are and how they make you grin, it is Rigney’s vocal impression that enhances his memory while retaining a true Rigney blues sound.

A fan of Elvis Presley, particularly his gospel songs, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll King’ is the perfect light-hearted tribute to Elvis, but also captures the intimate, personal, heart-warming charm of childish delight.
