Vincent J. Rigney – Busking In The Smoke (2024)

Inspired by life experiences, singer-songwriter Vincent J. Rigney brings those stories to life (or rather he’s sharing the stories) with his critically acclaimed music. From the complexities of first dates in ‘My Baby Let Me Down Tonight’ to self-discovery and “stepping away from the norm” in ‘Squeezed To The Bone’, the UK-based musician adds soul to his bluesy rock brand of music. One of my favourite aspects of my job is discovering new talent and while Vincent J. Rigney may be an emerging talent his music hits your heart, so you feel as if you’d known and listened to him for years. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Busking In The Smoke’.

Following the well-received single ‘My Baby Let Me Down Tonight’, Rigney weaves tinges of blues with classic rock in ‘Busking In The Smoke’. A whirlwind combination of soaring guitars, pounding drums and Rigney’s rich vocals, the new single twirls you about in a rush of sound. Not a head-whipping, high-voltage swirl of sound; however, the music evokes a similar sensation of “wow, what was that” on an emotional level.

Penned to describe Rigney’s trips from Corby to London in 2017/1028, ‘Busking In The Smoke’ has the rawness of a live open mic session find its way into the recording. Moreover, the song is more than just a toe-tapping tune as it explores a time of terrorist attacks and the Grenfell Tower fire. The juxtaposition between hopefulness and despair, as well as a sense of simplistic rawness within kaleidoscopic sensationalism, oozes from ‘Busking In The Smoke’. Bold and confident but simultaneously fragile and confused, Rigney captures each emotion with bluesy-rock tones.

Sincere, sentimental and introspective, ‘Busking In The Smoke’ encapsulates the horror of London’s tragedies. A voice of that period, of that event, of the people, Rigney brings that story to life.
