Victoria Simmonds – Last Dance In The Rain (2023)

From It’s All Indie to FV Music Blog, News Now, BBC Radio Solent, Senocular Media, Ze Rock Porto, and even an interview with Martin Daisy on Viviplay, Victoria Simmonds is making waves across the globe. With previous experience performing across Europe, UK-born Simmonds has the skills when it comes to live gigs, but does she own in-studio recordings? An absolute and resounding yes is the answer!

Inspired by artists like Carole King, Fleetwood Mac and Alanis Morrissette, Simmonds blends elements of folk, country, Britpop and musical theatre into her unique sound. From her debut album Let’s Do Happy (released in 2020) and acoustic sessions in 2021, Victoria Simmonds has explored the intricacies of life in its entirety. Now she releases ‘Last Dance In The Rain’ as her first single of 2023.

Following ‘Lion & The Lamb’, ‘Last Dance In The Rain’ moves away from the minimalist folk-pop tone to something heavier and harder. Dragging us back to folk-rock sounds of the 80s, there is a nostalgic flair to ‘Last Dance In The Rain’; however, while a reminiscence of Bonnie Tyler and Stevie Nicks exists, a sliver of bold contemporary pop presents a unique edginess to Victoria Simmonds’ music.

Just as the melody can hold its own with the dynamic combination of drums and guitars, it is Simmonds’ vocal execution that brings attitude to ‘Last Dance In The Rain’. Rich and bold, she makes a stand with a forceful exuberance but there is also a quieter, vulnerable undertone to the melody. Profound and thought-provoking she adds sincerity to ‘Last Dance In The Rain’ grasping at intimacy in its purest form.

“The indie-pop single ‘Last Dance In The Rain’ inspires thought-provoking lyrics about dementia and Alzheimer’s and other memory-affected illnesses in a heartfelt manner evoking intense emotions for people affected by the conditions as well as the friends and family around them, focusing on the change of personality due to the illnesses. The loss of the mind before the body and the hope that although they are not with us in mind they are happy dancing in the rain.” – Victoria Simmonds on ‘Last Dance In The Rain’
