Vanda – Mario (2022)
Vanda is taking us on a seriously enjoyable journey through the pop and RnB fusion of ‘Mario’. A slight rollercoaster of a single, the track explores friendships, summer nights you never forget, magic mushrooms and Nicki Minaj. Packed with the wild ups and downs of life, she fills you with a sense of exhilaration as the music edges toward anthemic.
Through this single, Vanda continues to push the boundaries of her music, while blending types and influences to create something new. Hitting the music scene in 2019 after co-writing and featuring on rapper Lucidious’ Enough album, she has been getting people interested in her indie pop and RnB mix. Using skills and knowledge honed studying at Hollywood’s Musicians Institute, she is moving from strength to strength.
‘Mario’ sweeps you off your feet and into the dreamy electronic tones of the melody. There is a pastel cloudy feeling to the music that invites you to relax back into it. The deep beats add texture to the softness and give the melody its initial forward momentum. There is a swing in the melodic flow that completely changes the sound of the track, bringing a heavier electronic tone and RnB flow. This turn back to the dreamy softness creating the rollercoaster feeling of the track. The pastel colours are the happy times and soft memories, while the heavier shuffles are the dips where you are unsure about what the future holds. As you ride the rollercoaster of music, you can hear the two melodic lines merging and bleeding into each other wonderfully.
