Vanda – Fairytale (2023)

Described as “an emotional powerhouse…” (Neon Music), “captivating…” (Couch Mag) and “…a source of joy…” (Sinusoidal Music), singer-songwriter Vanda elegantly weaves her mystical spell around audiences far and wide. Born in Chicago and based in Los Angeles, this US songstress entered the music scene in 2019 after featuring on and co-writing rapper Lucidious’ album Enough. Since then, she has been turning heads with her solo project and hell, we’re glad she made it to our virtual desk. The latest addition to Vanda’s discography is the single ‘Fairytale’.

On the heels of her tracks ‘More Than A Friend’ and ‘Indigo’, ‘Fairytale’ is Vanda’s third single on her upcoming debut album Sober In Another Live. With a signature style for emotional, raw and vulnerable songs, Vanda hits us in the heart once again with this new song. Unlike her upbeat single ‘More Than A Friend’, Vanda shifts into a slower ballad with ‘Fairytale’. The piano-driven instrumentation brings a sense of poignancy to the arrangement; however, it is Vanda’s soulful vocals that increase the intimacy of the song.

“…an emotional ballad written from the point of view of someone wondering if life has any more to offer or if this is the best it gets…” – Vanda on ‘Fairytale’

Finding a line between Miley Cyrus and Adele, Vanda has sweeping skin-tingling soulfulness flooding commercial pop. Interestingly, while the song is haunting with a dark vulnerability, a soft soothing and gentleness emerges within the melancholic tune. Even more interesting is how the production is sophisticated, but there is still a rawness in its sound.

Sincere and harsh. Confident and vulnerable. Bold but with a hint of fearful shyness. Vanda captures human fragility at its purest.
