Tyrone Marshall – Illuminated (2024)
With over 40 years of experience in the music industry, it’s fair to say that Tyrone Marshall is one of the veteran sharks in music’s shark pool. Yet, as he swims along with the respect of an elder by minnows fluttering about, Marshall is no old-fogie or fuddy-duddy – in fact, he’s the opposite. His music carries a nostalgic vibe lingering with the sounds of the Beatles, Elton John and T. Rex, but there is a refreshingly new modern-day sheen across the tracks. Come with us as we delve into his latest single, ‘Illuminated’.
The first release by Marshall in five years, ‘Illuminated’ is a cross-UK production combining the talents of Wales-based Marshall, Salisbury-based Chris Maule, and another Wales-based professional, Al Steele. Leaning strongly toward the glam-rock and classic rock feel of 1970s and 1980s, Marshall breathes life into whispers of yesteryear dragging you back several decades. Soaring guitars meet a bold bass with pounding drums, interspersed horns and a powerful keyboard travelling alongside.
Bound in a retro rock melody, ‘Illuminated’ is a hard-hitting flush of music; however, it is Marshall’s vocals that bring a certain something special to the track. With the energy of Elton John, the serenity of John Lennon, and the poetic clarity of Paul McCartney, Marshall’s dulcet tones deliver warmth, acceptance, joviality and charm in ‘Illuminated’. These comparisons can be made, but Marshall showcases a unique understanding of emotion and melody entwined by sophisticated vulnerability in ‘Illuminated’. The singer-songwriter explains:
“I wanted to create a song which had a positive message and energetic feel. It’s about helping those in a dark place to bring some much needed light and hope into their lives.”
In addition to the single, Tyrone Marshall released a lyric music video for ‘Illuminated’. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel.
