Tyler Meacham – dream house (2024)

Some people just have you swaying to their songs, but other artists ensnare your senses with a simple chord; it might not be that their song is the greatest song ever written and needs to be enjoyed, but the heart, warmth and richness of spirit bring a profound intimate connection beyond any melody. This is Tyler Meacham.

Since her 2019 single ‘Moving On’, US-based singer-songwriter Tyler Meacham has opened her arms and embraced listeners in comfortable, tender and hopeful hugs. Not literally, of course, it’s through her music; I mean, it’d be difficult to hug people on another continent. She might not hold them close, but her music exudes sincerity. Following the Anniversary Edition of her critically acclaimed 2022 album Into The Fray, Meacham releases her single ‘dream house’.

Recorded at Meacham’s home studio, and additional recording at Go West Studios with Mitch Clem, ‘dream house’ is an elegant single brimming with acoustic charm. Refined by Chris Bethea (mixing) and Joe Causey (mastering), a sophisticated tone runs through the track’; however, a sheen of youthful vulnerability clings to the song.

While there is a simplistic quality to ‘dream house’ as Chip Hale’s bass weaves across Meacham’s piano, the single is kaleidoscopic. A barebones starkness emerges in the verses, but the rush of tender warmth sweeps along the moving chorus. Binding everything together is Meacham’s sweet vocals. Yet, while her voice is a glittering thread in a sparkling tune, the lyricism tackles more profound issues. Meacham explains:

“’dream house’ is a song about the dreams we don’t realise we have until they’re gone. Sometimes it’s the little things like who might be in the crowd on your wedding day, or how many kids you’ll have, or if you’ll have kids at all, how long your parents will be around. We keep these big little dreams tucked away somewhere out of mind until we find ourselves in them or find ourselves without them… This is one of the most personal pieces of music I’ve released. I started writing what I thought was a song about real estate; it turned out to be a song about grief.”

In addition to the single, Tyler Meacham released a music video for ‘dream house’. You can view the video below or on her YouTube channel.
