Trummerkind – Revolt (2022)
Drawing together the intensity of My Chemical Romance and the obscurity of Crystal Castles with a dash of Ghost In The Machine, Trummerkind has a dark, gothic sound difficult to imitate. Originally formed by Rowen Silvester as a visual art piece, this UK-based trio touches on provocative themes in a sinister-sounding way. This is my introduction to Trummerkind, but the band has already gained international acclaim featuring on Edgar Allan Poets, Info Music, and iHeart Radio – to name just a few. Come with us as we delve into their single ‘Revolt’.
One of the first releases from Rowen Silvester (vocals), Robert Silvester (drums) and Oli Sturdy (guitar), ‘Revolt’ combines elements of post-punk with hard rock and punk. From the first chord, you immediately fall into a sonic whirlpool spinning about at a million miles per hour with bright lights flitting before your eyes. While there is a strong punk leaning in ‘Revolt’, an industrial gothic vibe bursts forth forcing you to pay attention to its heavy soundscape.
Bold, distorted and slightly discomforting, ‘Revolt’ is a powerful song with a hard-hitting blast. What I find intriguing is how the single has a sense of soothing vulnerability in the hardness of the track. It is a protest song looking at the invasion of Ukraine by Putin and I can see it being an anthem for protestors. Yet, despite the unnerving quality of the track capturing the frustration and anger of people, it also acts as a cathartic piece allowing one to let out all that angst and hatred.
Slithering in through your ear, Trummerkind rattle about your brain and send chills down your spine with their single ‘Revolt’.
