Trinkets – End Is Near (2025)
Self-described as “the soundtrack to your quarter-life crisis”, alternative rock band Trinkets weaves inner turmoil, questions of self-worth, frustration, anxiety, and all those gritty things you don’t want to see, into moving melodies celebrating existential tragedy and triumph. Inspired by the likes of My Bloody Valentine and The Cure, the Irish five-piece drag yesteryear’s alternative rock to modern-day audiences with a refreshing flair. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘End Is Near’.
The first release from Trinkets in two years, ‘End Is Near’ shows a re-emergence of the group on the music scene – or at least when it comes to releasing music. Honing its sound over the past two years, ‘End Is Near’ offers more sophistication and elegance in its production. This is not to say the group’s previous work lacked maturity and direction, it’s merely that ‘End Is Near’ is smoother, mellifluous, and weaves said maturity with a lingering innocence.
This is my introduction to Trinkets, so I was unsure what to expect. While ‘Juniper’ and ‘Playing It Shy’ alluded to an indie-pop fringed tone, ‘End Is Near’ sends a rush of synth-driven music past my ears. Hazy, wistful, and sort of floaty, the guitars, drums and keyboards create a palpable sense of eeriness sending haunting chills down your skin. Interestingly, just as there is a melancholy attitude to the track, the music offers a comforting hand and warm embrace.
Founded in 2022, Trinkets is quickly becoming a name on the Irish music scene, but their music will quickly reach far beyond their Irish borders – I mean, we’re in Germany…so, there. Trinkets’ new single may be titled ‘End Is Near’, but their journey is anything but ending; in fact, it’s just starting. A shining star to be watched closely, I am eager to hear more.
