Tridence – Poised (2024)

In 2019, Dublin natives and cousins Bailey McLoughlin (vocals and lead guitar) and Ben McLoughlin (rhythm guitar) decided to head off on a musical journey. The idea, the conception, the ready-for-the-race gumption was there… and then life intervened. With the onset of Covid-19 lockdowns, the McLoughlin cousins, PJ Moore-Coates (bass), and Rory Stewart Cummins (drums) sat back; but they were far from defeated. During those “pandemic years”, the foursome began writing songs, honing their sound, and making plans for the future. Skip ahead a couple of years and Tridence stands before you with massive grins and a cheeky wink.

We came across Tridence several months ago as they entered 2024 after the mad success of 2023. Following the well-received singles ‘By Your Own Design’ and ‘Pretty Imperfections’, the group released a new single ‘Poised’. Penned and produced in their distinctive remote style – each band member in their bedroom studio – then sent to Canadian producer HugoGT, ‘Poised’ is a bold combination of alternative rock and indie-rock with a grunge chaser.

A pioneer in the current Irish and UK music scene, the lads from Dublin taste various slicks of rock from various eras and styles, quickly pushing the boundaries of the genre. Shifting from the softer tone of ‘Pretty Imperfections’, ‘Poised’ has a kick of crashing drums with bold bass and soaring guitars bound about the hard-hitting four minutes of rock fury. Interestingly, just as the single brings all elements together in harmony it is the prominent individuality of the instruments (including Bailey McLoughlin’s vocals) enhancing the rush of sound with symphonic unity.

The melody itself is a powerful sonic swoosh wriggling into your ears, rocking about your cranium and sending spine-chilling tingles across your skin; however, it is the lyricism bringing further weight to ‘Poised’. A song about unrelenting resilience, self-worth and “keeping your head up and shoulders back”, ‘Poised’ is Tridence’s tribute to powerful confidence.  With their new single as a taster for the upcoming album of the same name, Tridence is poised for success.

In addition to the single, Tridence released an official music video for ‘Poised’. You can view the video below and on their YouTube channel.
