Transcending Into The Unknown – Chronos (2024)
The Unknown – it can be a terrifying but also exciting place. A place of confusion, fear, darkness and despair; however, it’s also intriguing, colourful and filled with hope. As Transcending Into The Unknown, Stian, Robert and Filip Dahl walk into a world of new collaborations with diverse musical styles fused into an inimitable sound. A family project with all members bringing individual influences, Transcending Into The Unknown is a result of “the unique combination and mix of music styles as a result of great variation…” From an audience’s perspective, this Nordic Unknown is another realm calling us with an alluring smile.
While Transcending Into The Unknown has only two singles to their name, at least according to Spotify, these musicians are hardly newbies in the industry. Robert Dahl made a name in Norway’s punk/metal world in the late 80s, and multi-instrumentalist Filip Dahl began his career as a guitarist in the 70s. Stian is the youngest of the three performing in various punk rock and metal bands during the ’90s and 00s. Drawing together their natural talents, the group reaches us today with their song ‘Chronos’.
Given the rock-inspired lilt of Transcending Into The Unknown, ‘Chronos’ is another rush of classic rock from the Dahl family. Following the well-received single ‘Giants’, it is a journey across a dark sonic river promising powerful waves with tumultuous crashes. Yet, just as the single is a rush of gut-wrenching, hard-hitting music, it has a softer, smoother, soothing element.
Opening with the flowing vocals of Eva Halsetrønning Rambraut, your senses settle in a hazy soundscape… then things get mad with Robert Dahl’s signature growl shouting from beneath the chaotic guitars… then it’s back to smooth and soothing as you are led out with a warm smile. Melodically, the track is harmonic in its rock-tinted symphony; however, individuality exists adding a slip of each band member’s skills to organised chaos.
