Track of the Day: XY GALA – Lifeless Life (2025)

Finding the line between a full-time corporate career, a family life as a devoted husband and father, while still keeping the journey as a musician burning, XY GALA achieves that perfect work-life balance. Then again, we’re no fly on the wall, and XY’s life might not be as balanced as we imagine – on paper, not necessarily in theory. Capturing the core of reality with all its grit and glory, XY GALA’s music uses personal, intimate narratives that resonate with audiences on a deeper level.

Beginning in the metal scene, XY GALA (also known as Simone Scacchi) started his journey performing in various bands, but now we’re looking at his solo project. A self-taught drummer turned multi-instrumentalist, producer, and internationally acclaimed musician, the UK-based artist is involved in all aspects of composition and creation. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Lifeless Life’.

Following his well-received 2023 single, ‘Creatures of Nightmares’, XY GALA returns from a year of honing his sound with ‘Lifeless Life’. A pivotal point in his evolution as a musician, this single is XY’s first, entirely DIY production. From performance to production, ‘Lifeless Life’ is a rush of steady, smooth, chilled-out mishmash of trap and alternative rock.

Bold drums pulsate beneath shimmering synths with an interspersed piano peeping from the back. A moving guitar stretches across the melody with a Santana-esque solo breaking forth. For me, however, it is the orchestral strings drawing out the poignancy of both the melody and lyricism.

Melodically, there is a strong leaning toward 90s/2000s alternative rock; however, it is the lyricism that enhances the tune’s depth. Brutally honest, XY GALA lays bare every bane of mundane reality from the traffic jams to the mindless rat race and even really bad coffee. It’s sad, depressing and, unfortunately, rather relatable; however, in its tragedy, there is a sense of empowerment born from resilience. XY GALA explains:

“This song is deeply personal. It reflects the push and pull of chasing dreams while managing responsibilities. It’s melancholic, but at the same time it’s a celebration of embracing life’s chaos.”
