The Other Side Reviewstrack of the day

Track of the Day: Wild Horse – Bitter

Wild Horse could be compared to John Mayer, The Hunna, Blur, Declan McKenna or The Weekend, but the truth is they are a band entirely on their own. With a sound that is purely Wild Horse, the indie-pop meets indie-rock trio are turning heads across the globe. Featured on various blogs like Brecon Indie Review, Rock N Load Magazine, Eclectic Music Lover, and numerous radio stations, Wild Horse is a band worth your time. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Bitter’.

Described by Melita Dennett from BBC Introducing as “one of the hardest working acts around…pull[ing] all the stops for a high energy live show…”, Wild Horse is growing a loyal following with their enthusiastic style and sound. Following their track ‘Joy Ride’, Jack Baldwin, Henry Baldwin and Ed Barnes effortlessly merge elements of indie-rock and pop with groovy funk vibes in ‘Bitter’. Interestingly enough, while there is a nostalgic throwback to the sounds of the 80s, the lads retain a contemporary rock edginess in their unique music.

Already a huge fan of Wild Horse, I am over the moon with this intriguing new track. Once again you are tossed into a kaleidoscopic swirl of sound twirling about with a grin on your face. Smooth and soothing with a laidback flow, the lads seep into your soul and leave you breathless with ‘Bitter’. I have to say that while the guitars and drums are harmonic with a calming quality, it is the lead vocals that really enhance the sweetness (and sexiness) of the song.

Melodically, this is a feast of a track, but it is the lyrical content that illustrates some depth behind the tune. Wild Horse explains that ‘Bitter’ is “about somebody wanting more than something casual and the general mixed emotions and confusion having a casual partner can create…” – I suppose it’s something many people can relate to; a desire for something more.
