Track of the Day: Vincent J. Rigney – Ghosting (2025)

Already a regular on The Other Side Reviews – which only shows how much we love talking about him – Vincent J. Rigney has taken us on emotional journeys of life and everything it has to offer. From a celebration of love and tender sentiments in ‘This Love’, to the tragic terror of the Grenfell Tower Fire in ‘Busking In The Smoke’, the UK-based musician weaves the bad and the good in his moving melodies. The last time we came across this veteran artist, at least review-wise, it was with ‘This Love’; today we take another step through his discography with the most recent release, ‘Ghosting’.

Following the well-received track ‘A Few More Miles’, Rigney begins 2025 with his blues-infused single ‘Ghosting’. Recorded in his hometown of Corby (that’s in Northamptonshire), ‘Ghosting’ has Rigney donning his guitar with blues oozing from his fingertips. Soft and soothing, the track has a gentleness about it with a laidback aura. Simplistic in its melody as Rigney’s dulcet vocals are layered atop charming guitar, with a particular mention of the old-school blues riff we hear about midway soaring in its vintage glory.

Guitar-driven with rich, warm vocals, ‘Ghosting’ is a sing-along song holding your heart in a tight embrace, but a darker theme lingers in the poetic lyricism. Oddly, ‘Ghosting’ can be likened to a conversation with a friend, yet it is anything but – it’s a sad diary excerpt from anyone who has experienced “ghosting”.

Haunting, chilling, and brimming with tear-evoking despair, Rigney tells the tale of being “ghosted” by a friend. Now if you aren’t aware of what “ghosting” means in today’s world, it’s ignoring someone entirely and not a scene with Casper the Friendly Ghost. Rigney explains, “This song tells us about a long-term friendship between two people that no longer communicate online, leading to unnecessary emotional cruelty.”

Sincere, sentimental and brutally honest, Vincent J. Rigney once again ensnares our senses with the spellbinding ‘Ghosting’. This is the final single from his EP Steel Town Boy, and I cannot wait for that EP. In the meantime, we can be contented with his current discography – although, I think the repeat button is going to become a little worn.
