Track of the Day: The Levy Circus – Changes

Bringing a powerful, unique and eclectic sound to the masses, UK-based The Levy Circus is a band not to be pigeon-holed. A passionate mishmash of veteran solo artists, the fivesome have a diverse foundation with various cultures, preferences and masterful skills. Chiselling out indescribable music (although I will do my best to describe it), Miles Levy (vocals), Graham Jones (guitar), Eddie Giacobbe (bass), Oscar Muto (keys) and Ammar Al-Chalabi (drums) easily ensnare audiences and send their souls soaring. This is my introduction to The Levy Circus, but they are already receiving critical acclaim from Sinusoidal Music, ParaPOP and numerous playlists. Come with us as we jump into their debut single ‘Changes’ – metaphorical jumping of course.

Produced with Michael Smith at Woodworm Studios, ‘Changes’ is a melodic forging of classic rock and indie-rock with tinges of pop sprinkled atop the arrangement. Bold guitars match Levy’s rich vocals alongside the pounding drums creating a forceful melody; however, it is the underlying keyboard that brings an eclectic flair to the heavier tone. Interestingly enough, while there is a hard-hitting nature to ‘Changes’, the song has a whimsical, laidback vibe that gets your toe tapping with its flow.

As much as I enjoy listening to brand-spanking new artists with their fun sounds, there is something to be said about older musicians coming together. A masterful flow seems to exist as the lads weave their instrumentation into a kaleidoscopic tapestry. Sophisticated, mature and more elegant, a stability can be heard within their singles – and in The Levy Circus’ case, a mature old-school rock sound is easily heard. The thing is, while the song is old-school it has a modern-day edginess meeting the needs of all audiences.

As I mentioned, this is my introduction to The Levy Circus but the comfort of ‘Changes’ makes me feel I have known them for years. I have but one complaint about the single – it ended too soon!
