Track of the Day: SWiiMs – Fill Me Up

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, SWiiMS is a quartet with a dreamy and ambient sound. It all began when guitarist Colin Thompson and drummer Ken Hume met vocalist and guitarist Mai Diaz Langou. Her enchanting vocals and elegant lyrics were exactly what this new band needed. The addition of bassist Cian O’Ruanaidh completed SWiiMS and a new kind of dream-pop was discovered. Quick note: the group came about after some failed attempts by Thompson and Hume to form a band. Honestly, I’ve never been so glad that someone failed a couple of times. Without those failures, we would not have SWiiMS.

‘Fill Me Up’ is the debut single from this four-piece boasting a dream-pop sound with strong New Wave influences. Polished, well-crafted and soothing, ‘Fill Me Up’ takes you on a tranquil journey from beginning to end. Blending soft vocals with an ambient backing, Mai Diaz Langou fills a person up with a sense of wonder and contentment. I’m not a great fan of this type of music, but SWiiMS may change my mind.

“‘Fill Me Up’ is a song about love. All the messy sides of love. The elation of new love and the pain of tearing it apart – the full course of a relationship.” – SWiiMS on ‘Fill Me Up’
