Track of the Day: Sam Baird – Feelings of Dying Alone
Only 20 years old and UK artist Sam Baird is making a statement. Hailing from Welwyn Garden City (don’t worry, we had to Google the place as well), Baird is an indie-rock musician well on his way to bigger things. His debut EP No One Can See You Now was released to a small audience but gained an overwhelmingly positive response. His follow-up to the EP is the track ‘Feelings of Dying Alone’.
Originally planned to be the primary single from his upcoming full-length album, ‘Feelings of Dying Alone’ is now so much more than a single release. An ironic and completely unintentional correlation between the Covid-19 pandemic and song title, Sam Baird hopes to use ‘Feelings of Dying Alone’ to support frontline NHS works and volunteers. All proceeds from ‘Feelings of Dying Alone’ are donated to the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Urgent Appeal Fund. So, here we have an indie-rock track with major Arctic Monkeys influences and integration of some David Bowie undertones working for a good cause!
“The song was not written to be a quarantine song as it was written well before I even heard the name ‘Covid-19.’ However, the song has taken on another meaning to me because of this pandemic and I think, despite what the name suggests, it is quite a positive song” – Sam Baird on ‘Feelings of Dying Alone’
