Track of the Day: Rob Eberle – Half Of You (2024)
Like staring through a window at a moving scene, Rob Eberle gives us glimpses of life with each moving melody. With youthful exuberance, the US-based Eberle celebrates every aspect of life from its joyful thrills to tumultuous despair. Indeed, many artists rush forth with kaleidoscopic swirls of reality; however, Eberle seems to have a certain something that makes him unforgettable. Capturing the intimacy of Elliot Smith with the cheekiness of Billie Eilish, this singer-songwriter uses his natural talent to carve a niche fusing alternative pop with pop-rock. Following his critically acclaimed single ‘house of glass’, Eberle steps into 2024 with the intriguing single ‘Half Of You’. A continuation to explore the rollercoaster of love, ‘Half Of You’ dips into the realm of unrequited love. As with ‘house of glass’ that tackled the traumatic tale of “two lovers that didn’t work out”, his new single steps back to a tale of love that hardly happens falling out of “love too fast”. Poignant and intimate, Eberle “paints a vivid picture of the narrator’s internal struggles as he grapples with the silence that echoes in the absence of mutual affection”.
Shifting to a heart-breaking pop ballad, ‘Half Of You’ is the sonic river with a shining light bouncing off the glassy surface. A quick tread onto the glass and you feel assured by the wash of drums, piano and synths fluttering with a kaleidoscopic sheen. A warm embrace caresses your face, and all seems content; then the shoe drops.
A crack in the glass, a splash in the water, a turbulent toss in the tumultuous waters booming the pain of Eberle’s loss. Interestingly, as you gasp for breath, hopefulness persists bearing down with a shining light. A bittersweet collision of raw despair but with the rush of lingering encouragement, ‘Half Of You’ encapsulates the heartache and hope of unrequited love.
