In his own brand of indie-folk, singer/songwriter Rich Jacques takes his listener on an emotional journey in his album Joy Follows Like A Shadow That Never Leaves. Beginning with the fear of delving into the deep unknown and ending with feelings of grace and acceptance, Joy Follows Like A Shadow That Never Leaves is an overarching musical construct of pure existence.
Having previous success as a solo artist and part of Right The Stars, Jacques’s music has been heard in major television shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and The Breakup. In 2017, Jacques won a Grammy award for his collaboration with Lisa Loeb on the album Feel What U Feel. The latest addition to his repertoire is the album Joy Follows Like A Shadow That Never Leads and its lead single of the same name.
‘Joy Follows Like A Shadow That Never Leaves’ is a raw, honest and simple track. The guitar-driven track is complemented by an undertone of synths with Jacques’ soft vocals. Effortless vocals with basic instrumentation make the track haunting, soulful and addictive. I’ve not heard of Rich Jacques before this, but the hypnotic effect of this single makes me eager to hear the rest of the album.
