Track of the Day: Rabauw – Maakt Niet Uit (2024)
Despite having only three singles to their name (at least according to Spotify), rock band Rabauw is already turning heads internationally with their eclectic, innovative and inspiring music. Not only are the band making waves, they are trailblazers bringing unique Dutch rock to the global masses. Hailing from The Netherlands, Jascha Soest, Micha Sprenger, Boris Piscaer and Auke Broertjes tackle the intricacies of reality in all its grit and glory with their singles. Today, we take a listen to the third track from Rabauw, ‘Maakt Niet Uit’. Join us, won’t you?
Following the well-received singles ‘Onkruid’ and ‘Kennis Is Herstel’, ‘Maakt Niet Uit’ continues the development of style and sound that is Rabauw and no one else. Dragging listeners back to 70s classic rock, there is a nostalgic familiarity with scorching guitars, pounding drums, and a pulsating bass. Recorded between guitarist Sprenger’s home studio, Studio Valentijn, and Jottem Studio, ‘Maakt Niet Uit’ combines large studios and smaller home studio settings, each bringing a unique flair and intensity to the track. Polished by producer Randy van Dijk, the track is elegant with honed sophistication; however, a hit of gritty rawness remains in the tune.
Passionate, powerful and oozing a hard-hitting sense of “get up and fist pump along to the infectious melody”, Rabauw wriggles into your ears and sticks in your brain with ‘Maakt Niet Uit’. Yet, just as the smash of hard rock music makes its way about your cranium, the lyrical content and theme add weight to the robust song. Delving into the deep, vulnerable recesses of our souls, ‘Maak Niet Uit’ is a delicate expression of human fragility; however, just as vulnerability is evident, the melody brims with empowerment. The band explain:
“We captured the raw conversations and emotions from a challenging period in our lives, translating them into music that not only reflects hardship but also embodies the drive to keep moving forward. ‘Maakt Niet Uit’ is as much about having fun as it is about healing.”
