Track of the Day: Pearl’s Cab Ride – Change
All the way back in 1992, two people bonded over their love for funk music while standing in a taxi queue outside a nightclub in Hull. Who knew that little discussion would result in the funk-soul sensation Pearl’s Cab Ride. There were a couple of ups and downs over the past 20 years with a break in 1996/1997, but Pearl’s Cab Ride was not to be ignored. After a one-off special to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of Hull’s Welly Club, the band decided to continue making music. We’re so pleased they did.
In 2020, the eight-piece (yes, eight) headed to the recording studio and lay down four tracks to be released over the year. The first single is Change’ – a soulful tune with some serious singalong attitude. Maintaining a latin vibe integrated with some funk, Pearl’s Cab Ride have achieved a single that needs to be on everyone’s playlist!
“My songwriting is very much how I feel at the time. Over the last 9 years, I have written lots of songs because of the massive change that I had in my life, and so I write a lot of songs about grief, loss and love, so they all have that theme running through them.
