Track of the Day: Orlando Hotopf – Confessions

Since the age of 13, Londoner Orlando Hotopf has used his guitar and voice to pursue a musical career. Over the years he has performed with many different bands sharing the stage with small and large names, such as Bombay Bicycle Club and Grant Nicholas (Feeder). After his last band threw in the proverbial towel, Hotopf decided to escape to Stockholm, Sweden, and begin working on his solo project recruiting guitarist Anton Hedlund, drummer Eric Olsson and bassist Freyr Flodgren to join the team. He recently released the first single ‘Confessions’ as a taster of his upcoming debut album.

While he may not look it, this 28-year-old has a wealth of experience that many new artists would give their right arm for. Unlike artists who draw you in with their cheery dispositions and good looks only to discover their music is absolute shit, Hotopf is cheeky, charismatic, attractive and can sing a pretty decent tune. ‘Confessions’ is a heartwarming, infectious and highly addictive debut track. The clarity of Hotopf’s rich vocals along with simple instrumentation helps find that balance between lightheartedness and complexity. Needless to say, I can’t wait for the album.

“‘Confessions’ is about feeling conflicted in a relationship and not being sure if you should keep fighting for it or walk away. It is the first single from my album which I wrote after moving to Stockholm from London and features Anton Hedlund on lead guitar, Eric Olsson on drums, Freyr Floodgren on bass and Zebastian Swartz on synth and backing vocals.” – Orlando Hotopf on ‘Confessions’
