Track of the Day: Neon Oracle – Daughters of Hecate (2024)
It is said that the best things in life take time to create and Neon Oracle took its time to create something insatiable. Slowly and carefully pieced together throughout 2023, the UK-based quintet drew together various influences, experiences and styles in their melting pot of music. Blending elements of rock, metal and electronic beats, Samantha Belle Raee (vocals), Brandon Kelly (guitar), Alex Harris (guitar), Ben Parkins (bass guitar), and Andy Roberts (drums) invite you on their dark journey.
Inspired by the likes of The Prodigy, Nine Inch Nails, Spiritbox and In This Moment, Neon Oracle is sure to offer a thrashing, scorching, blistering rush of metal; however, a lilt exists in Neon Oracle’s sound establishing them as an intriguing newcomer on the UK metal scene. Running a silvery thread of light in the mire of metal, Neon Oracle oscillates between the bright and dark sides of reality with intimate intricacy.
Leading to the band’s debut EP A history of violence, set for release in May 2024, ‘Daughters of Hecate’ is Neon Oracle’s first recorded track as a band. Recorded at Liverpool’s SAE Studios with co-production between vocalist Samantha Belle Raee, Machine In Texas (mastering) and Alex Headen, ‘Daughters of Hecate’ finds a line between sophisticated elegance and raw innocence…then blurs it and paints outside of the lines.
For me, listening to Neon Oracle is like being set off on a glistening sonic river set for distant shores. Yet, as soon as you become comfortable with the bopping ripples, the group snatch you into the tumultuous whirlpool beneath. Navigating the dark rush of metal linked by electronic threads, you easily lose your breath but continue with eagerness. Raee’s vocals rock from melodic and smooth to thrashing screams keeping you guessing but never letting go. Dazzled by the kaleidoscopic whirl of grit, grime and soothing harmony, Neon Oracle leaves you on the distant shore lost in metal bliss.
