The Other Side Reviewstrack of the day

Track of the Day: Moonlight Saints – Bottom Again

Formed approximately five years ago, US-based rock group Moonlight Saints have been building a strong following with their energetic performances and engaging songs. While the trio have turned audiences’ heads with their live shows, this does not mean they are hopeless in the studio. In fact, from what I hear, their studio singles have as robust a sound as any live band; however, there is one pillar of dismay when I stream Moonlight Saints’ stuff. I regret to inform everyone that they have only one release under their belt and we need so much more from this talented group. Come with us as we delve into their single ‘Bottom Again’.

Described by notable publications as “…delivering music with a vigorous sound…” (Roadie Music), playing “rock of great quality, full of energy and vigour…” (Roadie Metal), and a sound that is “…absolutely fresh” (Rock Era Magazine), Moonlight Saints will capture your senses and bring you to your feet. Falling into the rock genre the lads draw together the heaviness of classic rock, hard rock and melodic metal in ‘Bottom Again’. Think The Grateful Dead with tinges of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and even Halestorm (substituting Lzzy Hale’s vocals with Evan Couture).

Along with the melding of hard-hitting genres, I find it intriguing how the arrangement is both harmonic and individualistic. Guitars and pounding drums fuse into a heart-pumping tune, however, each instrument has prominence in ‘Bottom Again’ before falling in line with the harmonic whole. I guess Aristotle was right when he said the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, but don’t give up on the parts because they are just as significant. Moonlight Saints shows us this in ‘Bottom Again’.

Heart-stopping, toe-tapping, head-banging and slightly haunting, Moonlight Saints’ ‘Bottom Again’ slithers into my brain and rattles about my cranium….the thing is, I don’t mind. I look forward to more from this sensational group.
