Track of the Day: Mick J. Clark – This Is Where My Heart Belongs
For over a decade, singer-songwriter Mick J. Clark has enchanted listeners with his charming melodies, and he’s still at it. From his debut album Notes Three to his single ‘This Moment’, Clark has featured on international blogs including Senocular Magazine, Illustrate Magazine, Sinusoidal Music, and many more. Alongside the blogs, this UK-based musician has featured on numerous playlists and radio stations including AVA Live Radio and UK Country Radio. Already fans of his music, he has made it to our playlists and slithered into the hearts of The Other Side Reviews. Come with us as we take a dive into another of Clark’s intriguing songs, ‘This Is Where My Heart Belongs’.
Taken off his albums Brand New Love Songs and Is This The Best Song Catalogue Ever?, ‘This Is Where My Heart Belongs’ is a beautiful collision of pop and folk music. Clark shares that his 60-song catalogue (Is This The Best Song Catalogue Ever?) is a collection of songs throughout his life – an almost autobiographical release exposing Mick J. Clark in his entirety. Along with some other tracks, ‘This Is Where My Heart Belongs’ proves that the Grammy Award-winning artist is somewhat of a romantic with a softness resting in his soul.
Harmonically combining drums and guitars with his rich vocals, ‘This Is Where My Heart Belongs’ can bowl you over from the first chord. An inclination to Flamenco exists in the guitar playing and, in fact, Clark even sings in Spanish to say he loves you. To be honest, the romantic languages often incense feelings of love with a sensual flair and Clark knows it. Yet, while the Spanish influence might bring vivacity and sensuality, it is woven into a soft, gentle and soothing melody making you smile shyly and yearn for a hug.
Now, here’s the clincher. While a Valentine’s Day ambience exists in ‘This Is Where My Heart Belongs’, the song delves into issues of disaster, frustration and respect. Clark explains that ‘This Is Where My Heart Belongs’ was inspired by Extinction Rebellion and Global Warming – “this song is about how bad the older generation have treated this planet…there has been no respect given to this wonderful planet that we are so lucky to live on and all the mistakes and the mess that has been made is now left to the young generation to deal with…” Along with his global warning song, ‘We Know It’s True’, and other tracks used by the Croydon Education Department to empower children, Mick J. Clark proves he is more than just a pretty face.
