Track of the Day: Marlene Larsen – Galore (2023)

Honest, witty, genuine and exciting, singer-songwriter Marlene Larsen is making an impressive splash in the music industry. Introduced to the world in May 2023, Larsen is definitely one of the newbies on the block; however, she is by no means a shrinking violet. Since the release of her debut single ‘Galore’, which we will take a gander at in a moment, Larsen has been featured in Rock Era Magazine, Send Me Your Ears, It’s All Indie, Senocular Media, Plastic Magazine and Lost In The Manor reaching far beyond her French borders. Come with us as we jump into her world of soft rock.

Taking us on a winding road back to the age of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Charmed, Marlene Larsen embraces the 90s with open arms. Encapsulating the core of 90s rock music, ‘Galore’ lies somewhere between Nirvana, Alanis Morisette and The Cranberries. Lulling you into a soft, soothing sound, the song has an elegant sophistication in its arrangement. Opening with brooding guitars, mellifluous vocals and a heartfelt flow, you can easily become lost in the grunge-tinged tune…then it goes up a notch.

Bold crescendos blast the dust from her brooding guitars flaring in a fiery feast of riffs. Pounding drums hit you from the side bringing a heavy, hard-hitting, heart-pumping beat to the single. Yet, it is the obscure vocals that top everything off in a tantalising swoosh. Rich and decadent with a raw roughness streaking through the melody, Larsen’s voice is nothing short of exquisite.

The perfect single for an old-school coming-of-age film, Larsen tackles life, love and every obstacle we face in ‘Galore’. Soft but powerful, anxious but empowering, delicate but raucous, ‘Galore’ is a 90s-inspired tribute to being human. Based purely on this single, which is taken from her upcoming debut EP, it is clear that Marlene Larsen is set for stardom.
