Track of the Day: Lipford – Back To You
With his roots in alternative rock, Italy-based Lipford began as a guitarist and composer for the band MANTRAM. After 17 years as part of the group, the band, unfortunately, dissolved in 2019 leaving the artists to pursue further musical projects. For 37-year-old Lipford, this led to a solo career. Inspired by life in its entirety, Lipford’s goal is to communicate everyday emotions and help people rediscover themselves. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Back To You’.
Influenced by artists like Jeff Buckley, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chris Cornell, Lipford has a charming, poetic sound with a strong sense of intimacy. Using the melancholic tone of Jeff Buckley, but with the high-paced ferocity of Anthony Kiedis (Red Hot Chili Peppers), this Italian-American pop singer lays it all bare oozing vulnerability in his tracks. ‘Back To You’ offers an almost palpable sense of grittiness in its delicate arrangement that makes you sit back and pay attention.
The first single of 2022, ‘Back To You’ follows the anthemic pop track ‘Learn’. Slightly darker than ‘Learn’, the new single is an acoustic track melding Lipford’s rich vocals with a charming guitar. I find this simplistic approach not only intriguing as a melodic arrangement but how the intricate arrangement aligns with the message of ‘Back To You’. Lipford notes that ‘Back To You’ is a tale about “the first experiences of confrontation with the opposite sex…a young boy and a young girl living a summer story building a tree house in the wood, spending their days together and becoming more and more intimate by discovering love.”
Sincere and sentimental, ‘Back To You’ carries the sophistication of an experienced artist; however, it simultaneously brings a childish innocence to the fore with the soul-stirring melody.
