Track of the Day: Kaviani – Flat Screen Suicide

Touring as a session guitarist with established artists like Eric Martin (Mr Big), Joe Lynn Turner (Deep Purple) and Damon Johnson / Ricky Warwick (Thin Lizzy/Black Star Riders), singer-songwriter Kaviani has a degree of experience under his belt. However, the UK-based musician wanted more and in 2019 released music as a solo artist. Using his natural talent with a guitar as an independent act, Kaviani is known for his original and authentic sound. The latest addition to his repertoire is the single ‘Flat Screen Suicide’.

Bringing together the force of old-school rock ‘n’ roll with contemporary indie-rock, Kaviana presents a high-speed, upbeat track in ‘Flat Screen Suicide’. Touching on elements of modern technology and the hold it has on individuals, this new single exposes the dependence of people on their televisions and phones. Technology has always been there, but it seems in the 21st-century theses devices are holding more sway over people’s behaviour…and Kaviani just had to write a song about it.

Despite the seriousness of the underlying message, ‘Flat Screen Suicide’ is an energetic, buoyant single with an incredibly catchy, almost anthemic chorus. An absolute blinder of a track, ‘Flat Screen Suicide’ is composed with the enthusiasm and power of a live performance. The heavy riffs and impressive guitar solo demonstrate Kaviani’s skilled musicianship, as well as his versatility as an artist.

While innovativeness and eclecticism is shown in the melody of this new single, it is the richness of his vocals that showcase his will to please with a depth of content. Robust and warm, Kaviani’s bold voice effortlessly leaps above the melody grabbing one’s attention immediately. It is true that the joyful vocals intertwine with the dynamic instrumentation, but Kaviani’s witty lyricism ensures you hear the message below the surface without getting too down.
