Track of the Day: Karina Magallon – Island Rain

Influenced by the likes of Mariah Carey, Shakira and Bruno Mars, Karina Magallon has a powerful sound filled with toe-tapping vibes. Embracing music at a young age as part of a church choir, Magallon proved she had the pipes to make it as a singer; however, it is her skills as a pianist that show natural talent as an instrumentalist. Already a firm favourite on The Other Side Reviews, she has also featured on various radio stations including NPR World Café, Latin Alt Radio and Breaking Sound Radio. The latest addition to her well-received repertoire is ‘Island Rain’.

Described by Rising Artists Music Blog as having “flawless intonation, stunning vocal control, and a richly warm voice”, it appears we are not the only ones who think Magallon is a pop gem. Following ‘Secret Lover’, Magallon retains her unique pop meets RnB intensity with ‘Island Rain’. Written as a tale of star-crossed lovers, ‘Island Rain’ incorporates lighthearted sensuality with an upbeat groove. When I think of star-crossed lovers, I immediately think of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. While the pair may have met a sticky end, Magallon’s ‘Island Rain’ perfectly captures the joy of their passionate love.

What I enjoy about Karina Magallon’s music is the bi-lingual aspect highlighting her versatility and eclecticism. I don’t know about you, but in my opinion, Latin languages carry a certain romance about them. A sexiness that encapsulates love and makes it almost palpable. Inserting a Spanish bossa nova style into the contemporary pop track makes ‘Island Rain’ a little more enticing and, well, sexy.

Filled with positive vibes, the laidback track sends tingles to your toes while lifting you up on a fluffy pink cloud. The world may be collapsing around you, but Karina Magallon makes everything alright with her intoxicating new song.
