Track of the Day: Joe Wilkinson – Downpour

For approximately six years (give or take), singer-songwriter Joe Wilkinson has been captivating hearts across the globe with his intriguing musicality. From features on international press and playlists to supporting Grammy award-winning German artist Lauren Daigle and working with Netflix, Wilkinson is an established artist across the globe. Described as “incredibly refreshing” (Rising Artists Blog), “stunning and captivating” (Sinusoidal Music) and “achieving success in a saturated creative field as music” (Less Than 1000 Followers), the British musician is quite something. The latest addition to his critically acclaimed discography is the single ‘Downpour’.

On the heels of his well-received track ‘Let Me Know’, ‘Downpour’ is the third of four singles to be released in 2022. Retaining the folk-rock sound heard in his previous release, ‘Downpour’ has the toe-tapping vibe we have come to expect from Joe Wilkinson. Immediately tipping listeners into a sonic swirl, the guitar-driven melody has you twirling about with a grin on your face. Wilkinson’s dulcet tones only further the happiness you feel in this laidback tune as he serenades you in the cinematic ambience. I don’t know if I could call the song kaleidoscopic, but the melody definitely has a colourful quality in the soundscape.

Soft and soothing, but with a bit of a rock edge in the guitar riffs rising to catchy choruses, ‘Downpour’ is rather intoxicating. Adopting a ballad design, Wilkinson explains that ‘Downpour’ is “a modern love song all about having someone’s back through the good, the bad and everything in between.” – this sincerity and sentimentality definitely shines through in the song.

As I mentioned, ‘Downpour’ is sincere, sentimental and filled with heartfelt tenderness. I cannot wait to see what else Joe Wilkinson has in store.
