Track of the Day: Jade Moede – Drive On Skirtzy
Friends and family are often the most honest critics when it comes to our creative projects, and sometimes they don’t have the best feedback. In the case of Jade Moede, it was the total opposite. Described by his mate AJ Dagger, Moede “…singlehandedly brings personality, humour and insight back to music. Like Zappa and Weird Al hosted an orgy and invited all the best musicians around and you were the resulting love child.” – I say that’s pretty awesome stuff. But, now let’s take a look at Moede and share what we think.
Featured on The Punk Head, Roadie Music, Rock Era Magazine, Indie O’Clock and Edgar Allan Poets (to name a few), this US-based artist is reaching audiences across the globe. While Moede has been releasing solo material since 2018, this is our introduction to him and what an introduction it is. May we present the latest addition to his discography – ‘Drive On Skirtzy’.
I once heard that road trips can be the best therapy. Just following the road can bring clarity, insight, release anxiety and is a great deal of fun. Okay, it’s just a quote from The Good Doctor but still some significant advice. In ‘Drive On Skirtzy’, Jade Moede encapsulates a love for “cruising the drive” in classic rock and roll. A melodic arrangement of drums and dynamic guitars, ‘Drive On Skirtzy’ will have you tapping your toe from the first gritty note.
What I love about this single is how on the surface it is what it says on the label – cruising along in a stellar car. Yet, there is a deeper insight to the head-bopping melody; instead of just being a song about falling in love with the trip and feeling a deep joy in the experience, Moede shows you don’t need big pretentious things to be content.
“’Drive On Skirtzy’ is a fun cruising song about loving the drive. A bouncy ride-along song with a heart spinning cartoon car topped off with lyrics” – Jade Moede on ‘Drive On Skirtzy’
